What Colours and Patterns Does Covercrete Come In?

Covercrete comes in dozens of colours and finishes: solid colours, two-tone fleck blends, and stencilled patterns that give concrete the look of tile, slate or brick. The range we install across Brisbane and the Gold Coast is the CCS Stylepave colour card, we bring physical samples to every quote, and most work lands between $50 and $100 per square metre including sealing - with stencilled and decorative finishes at the upper end of that range.

First, the name. Spraycrete, covercrete and concrete resurfacing all refer to the same process - a decorative cement-polymer overlay, around 2 to 3 millimetres thick, sprayed over your existing concrete rather than replacing it. The terms are used interchangeably across the industry, so if one quote says spraycrete and another says covercrete, you are comparing the same system, and the colour and pattern options below apply to both.

Colour is the decision most people sit on longest, because it is the one everyone sees for the next twenty years. This guide covers how the colour is actually built into the surface, what different choices look like on real South-East Queensland homes, what solid colours, flecks and stencilled patterns cost, and the simpler option worth knowing about if your slab only needs colour rather than resurfacing.

How the Colour Is Built Into the Surface

Covercrete colour is not paint. The pigment is oxide-based and carried in the overlay itself: the cement-polymer mix is blended on site and sprayed on with a hopper gun in even coats, building up your chosen colour and texture as it goes. Because the colour runs through the sprayed material and is then sealed in, it will not peel the way a painted surface does.

The last step is what protects the choice. Two coats of UV-stable sealer go over the finished surface, locking in the colour and guarding it against fading, staining, tyre marks and the Queensland sun. From there the upkeep is simple - sweep it, hose it, wash it occasionally with a mild detergent, and give it a fresh coat of sealer every three to five years to keep the colour sharp. Looked after that way, a covercrete surface has a working life of 20-plus years, with our workmanship covered by a written warranty.

What Colour Choices Look Like on Real Queensland Homes

A colour card tells you what a pigment looks like at hand size. What matters more is how that colour reads across a standard 60m² driveway - against your roof, your render and your garage door. The most useful reference we can offer is finished work: the jobs below are all CoatPro installs from around Brisbane, photographed on site.

Most driveways we quote end up in one of two broad camps: dark charcoals and flecks on one side, pale greys and sand tones on the other. Named blends from the range - Atlantic and Greystone with black-and-white fleck, Shale and Blue Mountain with fleck - can be compared on real driveways, patios and pool surrounds in the before-and-after sliders on our spraycrete service page.

Dark charcoal and flake blends

On a grey two-storey Queenslander-style home, we finished the driveway in a dark charcoal flake coating running up to a white garage door. Dark surfaces read crisp against white trim and light render, and the fleck does real work - it breaks the colour into texture, so the slab reads as stone rather than as one flat painted sheet. On a North Lakes job, a wide wrap-around driveway and hardstand went from patchy mixed greys to the same even dark charcoal, and the contrast against the lawn is what makes the whole frontage look finished.

Pale greys and sand tones

At Samford, a white weatherboard Queenslander with a zincalume roof had its heavily stained driveway finished in a uniform pale grey - Grey Stone, the same finish shown on our driveway resurfacing page - sitting quietly with the white picket fence instead of competing with it. Pale tones are the natural pick on character homes and light exteriors.

Sand tones do the same job against rendered homes. The McDowall job below took a pale sand-toned finish across the driveway, front paths and rear alfresco - one colour that sits with the render and the sandstone-look retaining blocks, tying together every slab on the property.

How to Narrow the Choice at Your Place

Start from the fixed elements you are not going to change: roof colour, render or cladding, the garage door, fencing and any stone or brickwork. A driveway is the largest single surface most homes own, so it works best supporting those elements rather than introducing a new colour family of its own. Charcoal against white and light render, pale grey with weatherboard, sand tones with warm render - the real jobs above are all versions of that one rule.

Around pools, grip and comfort narrow the palette before looks do. The sprayed texture grips with wet feet, stays cooler underfoot than plain concrete and takes foot traffic again about 24 hours after the final coat - and the colour range is wide enough to suit the landscaping. Our pool deck coating guide covers choosing for Gold Coast pool surrounds in detail.

And never pick off a screen. Colours read differently on a phone, on a card and across forty square metres of concrete in full Queensland sun, which is why we bring the CCS Stylepave samples to every quote - hold them against the slab, the render and the garage door in your own light before you decide.

What Colour and Pattern Choices Cost

Most covercrete work lands between $50 and $100 per square metre including sealing. Where a job sits in that range comes down to the condition of the slab, how much preparation it needs, how easy the site is to access - and the finish you pick, because stencil patterns and decorative borders sit at the upper end. A typical driveway runs about $75 per square metre, and a standard 60m² driveway typically comes in around $4,500 including normal preparation and sealing.

Our online calculator prices standard spraycrete in a solid colour at $85 per square metre and decorative stencil, pattern or texture finishes at $95 - both ex GST, with job minimums of $3,500 and $4,500 - and the final price is confirmed after an on-site inspection. For perspective, ripping out and re-pouring concrete usually starts around $150 per square metre before demolition and disposal, so a pattern upgrade costs far less than the gap between resurfacing and replacing. The full comparison is in our spraycrete resurfacing cost guide.

Stencilled Patterns: Tile, Slate and Brick Looks

Stencilled patterns are how covercrete delivers the look of large-format tile, slate or brick without laying any. The stencil is laid between the sprayed coats, so the pattern lines are part of the surface itself and sealed under the same UV-stable topcoats - not painted on afterwards. Decorative borders are laid the same way.

The driveway in this article's header is the real thing: patchy, stained plain concrete resurfaced in Midnight Blue with a white stencilled tile grid, the pattern running cleanly from the garage down to the street apron. Like any covercrete job it was a spray-and-seal install - most run two to three days, with foot traffic after 24 hours and vehicles kept off for seven days while the sealer cures. If You Want Colour Without Resurfacing

Covercrete is not the only way to add colour. If your slab is structurally sound and the surface is in good shape, coloured topical sealing adds tone and protection in one step: more than 15 colours, a low-sheen finish, and a recoat roughly every 2 to 5 years. On broom-finished or lightly textured concrete the slip resistance stays comparable to the original surface, and a fine anti-slip additive can be mixed in during application where extra grip is needed.

The dividing line is the condition of the concrete. A coloured sealer enhances what is already there; a covercrete overlay covers wear, staining and repaired cracks in one hit, which is why worn driveways get resurfaced rather than just sealed. If you are not sure which side of that line your slab sits on, that is exactly what the free assessment answers.

FAQs

Common questions about covercrete colours, patterns and finishes.

What colours and patterns does covercrete come in?

Dozens - solid colours, two-tone fleck blends and stencilled patterns like tile, slate and brick. The colour is oxide-based and sealed in, so it won't peel like paint. The CCS Stylepave colour card covers the full range we install, and we bring physical samples to every quote so you can check a colour against your slab and house in your own light.

Do stencilled patterns cost more than solid colours?

Yes. Most covercrete work lands between $50 and $100 per square metre including sealing, and stencil patterns and decorative borders sit at the upper end of that range. Our calculator prices standard solid-colour spraycrete at $85 per square metre ex GST and decorative stencil, pattern or texture finishes at $95, with the fixed price confirmed at a free on-site assessment.

Will the colour fade in the Queensland sun?

The pigment is oxide-based and locked in under two coats of UV-stable sealer that resist fading, staining and tyre marks. A fresh coat of sealer every three to five years keeps the colour sharp, and looked after that way a covercrete surface has a working life of 20-plus years.

Can I add colour to my concrete without resurfacing it?

Yes - coloured topical sealing adds tone and protection in one step, with more than 15 colours and a low-sheen finish, recoated roughly every 2 to 5 years. It suits slabs that are structurally sound and simply need colour; if the surface is worn, stained or patched, a covercrete overlay covers all of that in one hit.
